While you’re in port in Copenhagen, take a shore excursion to Kronborg, the Danish castle made famous as Elsinor in Shakespeare’s ‘Hamlet.’ Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Kronborg is must-see for Shakespeare fans and royalty buffs. This tour also includes stops at two more Danish royal sites – Fredensborg Palace, one of the Danish royal family’s residences, and Frederiksborg Castle, now the Museum of National History. Along the way, enjoy the lovely Danish scenery.
On this five-hour Copenhagen shore excursion, you’ll travel through the Danish countryside to Kronborg, a 16th-century Renaissance castle on the northwest tip of Denmark. Better known as Elsinor from Shakespeare’s Hamlet, Kronborg is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Hamlet has been performed inside the castle several times by actors like Jude Law and Laurence Olivier.
On the way to Kronborg, you’ll stop by two other Danish royal sites. First, you’ll visit Frederiksborg Castle in Hillerod. The largest Renaissance palace in Scandinavia, Frederiksborg houses a collection of art known as the Museum of National History. You’ll then see Fredensborg Palace, where the Danish royal family lives for much of the year
Kronborg sits near the beautiful town of Helsingor, where you’ll admire buildings that date back to the 1700s. You’ll then make your way back to Copenhagen via the ‘Danish Riviera’ on Denmark’s Oresond Strait coast.
