Bergen neighbors the Fjords of Norway and thus makes it the perfect city to head
outdoors and enjoy nature’s beauty. Hiking is a very popular pastime in
Bergen and once you head up one of the local hills and enjoy the breathtaking
views, you will know why. There are also many facilities for tennis, squash, swimming,
and any other sports or leisure activity you can imagine.
The Fjords
Bergen is known as the Gateway to
the Fjords. The Fjords are a must see if you plan on visiting Bergen. They are
truly breathtaking. There are many ways to visit the Fjords; you can journey by
boat, train, or even hike. No matter what your fitness level the Fjords are worth
the effort.
Hiking
If an intense hike on the Fjords seems a bit much for you, there are many local
Bergen hiking paths and trails that might suit your fancy instead.
Mount
Fløyen – take a trip on the funicular railway (located next to the
fish market) to the top of Mount Fløyen, it offers the best views of the
city of Bergen. There are many easy walking paths to explore and a restaurant
that is open during the summer months.
Mount Lyderhorn
– There are many paths and trails to enjoy on Mount Lyderhorn and it was
once said that witches met on this mountain on certain nights of the year. Beautiful
terrain.
FC Brann
Football
is as popular in Bergen as it is in the rest of Europe. Bergen’s own team
FC Brann was formed in 1908. It has its own stadium, Brann Stadium, that was built
in 1919, which hosts Brann’s home games. The stadium is usually packed for
home games, and the crowd is loud and lively. Be sure to check out a game if you
have the chance. Check out the FC Brann websites at http://www.brann.no
for schedules and ticket information.
