At
the mouth of the river Aura, Finland's oldest city was founded centuries ago.
And it along this same river Aura today that Turku's art galleries, museums, restaurants
and theatres are located. Many of the old and beautiful landmarks can be seen
from the river. Turku Castle and Turku Cathedral are the most important of these
historical Turku sights.
With the the largest and most
beautiful archipelago in the world, make sure you explore the surroundings. It's
easy to get to by fine bridges and ferries that link the islands together. And
the Scenic Roads attracts plenty of cyclists in summer as an enjoyable way to
get to know the archipelago.
And not far from Turku is
Naantali, a most popular attraction especially for Finnish tourists, primarily
because of Moomin world, a fairy world construction, based on the characters in
the books by Tove Jansson, a Finnish author. It is a fun destination for families
with children, but also offers other activities. In Turku, a proud port town past
has a fun energy today.
