Geneva has long been Switzerland’s most cosmopolitan city and indeed a very international city. It sits on the country’s largest lake, Lac Léman and astride the Rhône. This has always made the city well situated. The river bisects the city - some refer to the north side as the right bank (Rive Droit) and the south as the left bank (Rive Gauche). The lake, the river, and the nearby mountains create a very lovely, livable and wealthy international city.

Over 200 international organisations locate their headquarters in Geneva, including the UN's European office. Therefore Geneva has a foreign community of up to one-third of the population. Geneva also plays a significant role in the manufacture of watches, scientific instruments, jewellery and food items.

The city has much to offer the visitor in the way of shopping, sporting activities and sightseeing and just regular easy enjoyment in a both big and small way.
