When you are visiting Alicante you will be overwhelmed with all the choices that you have of things to do and places to visit. Besides the fantastic beaches and leisure activities that will keep you busy for hours you will want to schedule in some time for other outings and excursions around the city.
You might want to consider an afternoon of shopping. Alicante offers everything from local crafts to designer boutiques in the busy shopping area of the Maisonnave. Or you might want to shop in the more traditional part of the city near the Rambla de Méndez Núñez, where you can find some local treasures to take home for your memories.
There are many gardens and parks throughout Alicante that are sure to have some appeal for you with their beautiful flowers and magnificent views. Spend an afternoon strolling through one of the parks while you enjoy an ice cream. No matter how you decide to spend your days in Alicante you are sure to not be disappointed.
There are many places to see just a short drive outside of Alicante. Start exploring by yourself in your rental car or find out tours are available to give you an introduction into the area around Alicante.
Castell de Santa Barbara

You definitely don’t want to miss a visit to this amazing castle that has everything that an enchanted castle should have! From the hidden passages to the drawbridge you will feel as though you have stepped into a different world. The castle overlooks the surrounding area and you can watch as the Alicante sun sparkles off the Atlantic Ocean. The castle was built in 400BC and its imposing stature will take you back to that ancient time.

Santa Pola
Location: 18km south of Alicante, along the N332
When you need a break from the busy bustle of Alicante you can escape to the small fishing village of Santa Pola. Just a short drive south of Alicante, this delightful village has beaches that can’t be beat as well as some timeless architecture and churches that you will want to photograph.
Isla de Tabarca
Location: 17km off the coast of Alicante
Visiting the island of Tabarca is a great day excursion that you will never forget. You can get to this amazing island by boat, departing from the Alicante Port perhaps in one of the glass-bottomed boats that are so popular. Explore the island and its many beaches in the warm Alicante sun. Don’t forget to enjoy a seafood meal in one of the many restaurants.
