Nature in the Middle of the Modern City The
Norwegian capital is one of Europes largest city-areas, covering 454 km2.
What is unique about the large city-area is that most of the many square kilometres
are nature, Oslomarka. This gives a very special mixture of nature and culture:
The city centre is right next to the fiord, and there is only a half hour drive
from the centre to the vast forests and mountain-areas. At
the same time, Oslo is a modern, pulsating city with shopping centres, new museums
and a blooming theatre, concert and entertainment life. If you are more keen on
traditional sightseeing, there are numerous opportunities of exploring the citys
many museums and historical buildings. Norways capital
blends the new and sophisticated with the old and traditional - it is easy to
understand that Oslo means meadow of the Gods.
