Business and Culture for more than a 1000
years Bergen, which is one of the oldest cities
in Norway, is characterised by a picturesque position and a lively cultural life.
The city is surrounded by 7 mountains, among others Fløyen, which tourists
can mount in the popular cable car, Fløibanen. If you prefer the summit
of Ulriken, you can take a trip on the aerial ropeway. From the mountains you
have a magnificent view of the city and the busy harbour. Through the centuries, great fires have
affected Bergen repeatedly, but nevertheless the city has succeeded in holding
on to its position as trade, shipping and industrial city. Bergen has the second
largest port in Norway and trade connections all over the world. With its annual, international festivals
in May - June and the rich art collections, Bergen has become a cultural centre
which is of-course worth a visit. Are you in need of an outing, you can take the
bus to Paradis; here you will find Fantoft Stavkirke (stave church). Presently,
there are no more than 31 of these very special medieval churches that are quite
unique to Norway.
