Overview
For those who come to Europe once in a lifetime and wish to see the maximum—from London to Vienna to Rome to Madrid and Paris—this is THE vacation to explore the European continent. Visit many of the famous cities and sites in Europe, with 2-night stays in London, Lucerne, Vienna, Venice, Rome, Tuscany, Nice, Barcelona, Madrid, and Paris. Then there’s the high-speed Eurostar train rides from London to Brussels and from Paris to London, a canal cruise in Amsterdam, a Rhine cruise, the Black Forest, the Rhine Falls, Liechtenstein, Innsbruck, a walking tour with a Local Guide in Salzburg, a private boat transfer in Venice, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, St. Paul de Vence, Arles, Burgos, Bilbao with a visit to the Guggenheim Museum, Biarritz, and Bordeaux. From there you’ll take the high-speed TGV train to Paris. Sightseeing in all major cities includes the major sites, as well as highlight features such as the Doges’ Palace, the Colosseum, Sistine Chapel, Michelangelo’s David, the Prado Museum in Madrid, and a ride up to the second floor of the Eiffel Tower. You’ll see all the European continental coasts: the English Channel, the North Sea coast, the Italian and French Rivieras, and the Bay of Biscay. Day 1 Arrive in London, England. Uniformed Globus hosts are available to help you make the most of your stay.
Day 2 London. Morning sightseeing with a Local Guide includes all the famous landmarks: the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben beside the River Thames, Westminster Abbey, Whitehall’s mounted horseguards and the Prime Minister’s Downing Street, Piccadilly Circus, and Buckingham Palace. Visit ST. PAUL’S CATHEDRAL and see the Changing of the Guard, if held. (B)
Day 3 London–Brussels, Belgium. Meet your Tour Director and traveling companions and board the EUROSTAR TRAIN to Brussels. Walk to GRAND’PLACE and see famous Manneken Pis, followed by a welcome dinner at your hotel. (B,D)
Day 4 Brussels–Amsterdam, Holland. In Amsterdam, enjoy a CANAL CRUISE, the best way to see the 700-year-old capital, and visit a major DIAMOND CENTER. Later, how about an optional excursion to Volendam? (B,D)
Day 5 Amsterdam–Cologne–Heidelberg, Germany–Rhineland. Past the locale of A Bridge Too Far on the way to Cologne. Here, visit the gothic CATHEDRAL. The afternoon’s highlight is a romantic RHINE CRUISE. Arrive in Heidelberg and take pictures of its castle. (B,D)
Day 6 Rhineland–Lucerne, Switzerland. Morning stop in the BLACK FOREST. Next, take pictures of the thundering RHINE FALLS and continue to Lucerne. (B,D)
Day 7 Lucerne. During your walking tour, admire the LION MONUMENT and cross the famous covered CHAPEL BRIDGE to the Jesuit Church. Afterwards, shop for Swiss watches and choose from our optional activities: climb a mountain by cable car, take a cruise on the fjord-like lake, or sign up for a folklore party. (B)
Day 8 Lucerne–Liechtenstein–Innsbruck, Austria–Salzburg. A short stop in Vaduz, capital of the pocket-sized Principality of Liechtenstein. Next is Innsbruck, Austria’s Olympic resort in the Tyrolean mountains. Walk to Emperor Maximilian’s GOLDEN ROOF before continuing to Salzburg. (B,D)
Day 9 Salzburg–Vienna. A pleasant stroll with your Local Guide takes you through the historic center. Admire exquisite MIRABELL GARDENS, the Great Festival Hall, and ST. PETER’S CHURCHYARD. Then, drive along the Danube Valley to Vienna. (B)
Day 10 Vienna. Guided sightseeing features Prater Park with its Ferris wheel, the United Nations City, the State Opera House, the Jewish quarter, St. Stephen’s Cathedral, a stop at the Hofburg Palace, and a visit to STRAUSS HOUSE. Optional excursions to Schönbrunn Palace or to Grinzing are available. (B)
Day 11 Vienna–Venice, Italy. Journey across scenic Semmering Pass to Venice. Tonight is your chance to sample the city’s fine restaurants. (B)
Day 12 Venice. Enter in style by PRIVATE BOAT. Highlights of your guided walking tour are ST. MARK’S SQUARE and its BASILICA, lavish DOGES’ PALACE and the BRIDGE OF SIGHS. Also enjoy a GLASSBLOWERS’ DEMONSTRATION. (B,D)
Day 13 Venice–Rome. A scenic drive across the wooded Apennines brings you to the “Eternal City.” (B)
Day 14 Rome. Sightseeing with your Local Guide starts with a visit to the VATICAN MUSEUMS and SISTINE CHAPEL. Continue to monumental ST. PETER’S SQUARE and BASILICA. Also visit the COLOSSEUM and the ROMAN FORUM. (B)
Day 15 Rome–Florence–Tuscany. In Florence, enjoy a walking tour with a Local Guide and visit Michelangelo’s celebrated David in the ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS. Admire the cathedral, and also visit sculpture-studded SIGNORIA SQUARE. (B,D)
Day 16 Tuscany. Excursion to Pisa. Focus on Pisa this morning and take pictures of its famous Leaning Tower. The afternoon is at leisure. This evening, you may wish to join an optional dinner to a fine Tuscan restaurant to try out the local specialties. (B)
Day 17 Tuscany–Nice, France. Enjoy a scenic drive along the Italian and French Riviera, and a stop at a PERFUME FACTORY. Tonight, an optional excursion is available to Monte Carlo. (B)
Day 18 Nice. Excursion to St. Paul de Vence. This morning, visit the picturesque hilltop town of St. Paul de Vence. Afternoon and evening at leisure. (B)
Day 19 Nice–Arles–Barcelona, Spain. In Arles, walk to the famous Roman Amphitheater and enjoy free time. Next, continue to the Spanish border. Overnight in Barcelona. (B,D)
Day 20 Barcelona. Sightseeing with a Local Guide features the spectacular Sagrada Familia Basilica, Gaudi’s masterpiece, and a panoramic view of the city and harbor from Montjuïc Hill. Also visit the GOTHIC QUARTER. Afternoon at leisure. (B)
Day 21 Barcelona–Madrid. Enjoy rustic Catalonian and Aragonian landscapes on your journey to Madrid, the capital of Spain since 1561. (B)
Day 22 Madrid. Guided sightseeing features the highlights of Madrid. Then, a visit to the palatial PRADO MUSEUM with its priceless art treasures. Enjoy free time afterwards. (B)
Day 23 Madrid–Burgos–Bilbao. North to Burgos for a short visit, then, continue to Bilbao and visit the famous GUGGENHEIM MUSEUM. (B,D)
Day 24 Bilbao–Biarritz, France–Bordeaux Visit Biarritz, an ancient fishing village turned trendy seaside resort. Continue through the Landes region to Bordeaux and enjoy an orientation tour. (B,D)
Day 25 Bordeaux–Paris. Travel by high-speed TGV TRAIN to Paris. Afternoon at leisure or join an optional excursion to the Louvre Museum. Tonight, a lively cabaret show might just be the ticket! (B).
Day 26 Paris. Morning sightseeing with a Local Guide includes the most famous sights and a visit to the second floor of the EIFFEL TOWER. An optional excursion to Versailles Palace is available. This evening, enjoy a farewell dinner with wine at one of Paris’ fine restaurant. Afterwards, you may wish to join an optional drive through the “City of Light." (B,D)
Day 27 Paris–London, England. Board the high-speed EUROSTAR TRAIN to London, arriving in the afternoon. Why not take in a West End show tonight? (B)
Day 28 London. Your vacation ends with breakfast this morning. (B)
